Corporate jargon
Beliefs
Generalisations we make about life, ourselves and others. We act as if these are true even if sometimes there is
evidence to suggest otherwise.
Generative changes
Making changes that generalise to many contexts producing the ability to originate further new changes.
Identity
A self-image or self-concept. Who you consider yourself to be.
Model of the world
The ideas and concepts that someone has in their mind which they take to be true of the world. This is sometimes
called their 'map of the world' leading to the phrase 'the map is not the territory'.
Modelling
The process of discerning the sequence of steps (ideas, thoughts, actions) which enable someone to achieve a
task. This is how NLP started.
Outcome
A specific desired goal which is based on your senses. You know what you will see' hear and feel when you have
realised the goal.
Pre-suppositions
Beliefs or ideas which are acted upon as if they are true.
Resources
Anything which helps you achieve your outcome. This might be the state you are in, the beliefs you hold to be
true, possessions you own, techniques you have learnt - anything that helps.
Strategy
A repeatable sequence of thoughts and actions which consistently produce a certain outcome. Ever wonder how
Tiger Woods gets it right more often than the rest of us?
Values
What you consider to be important. You tend to respect these things and as a result they drive your behaviour
powerfully along with your beliefs.
